OUR HISTORY

The Bell Bowling Club was founded by Mr. DHG (Des) Bell on a single green that existed at the old Southport Hotel. The green was known previously as the Harry Bell Memorial Green and was owned by Des Bell. On 20 June 1957, The Bell was officially opened as an affiliated club. When Des Bell sold the Southport hotel in 1975, it became necessary to relocate. Land was acquired from the Bendigo Town Board on lease at our current location. The new facilities opened its doors on 18 & 19 December 1978. The new green was named in honor of our founder, and the 'A' green is known as the Des Bell Green. A second green was added and became operational December 1981. In honor of the president who was responsible for its creation, the 'B' green was named the Jock Reen green. In the years since, our clubhouse and bar have been upgraded and expanded several times till they are as seen today.
